Whats on in Edinburgh? What isnt? Edinburgh is not called the Festival City for nothing! Together with the local village events and galas, Film,Science,Jazz,Blues and Folk festivals and also the International Festival and Festival Fringe,you will be completely spoilt for choice. Of course, there's lots more on than I've listed here, but as soon as I get more details they will be added here.
Most of these events are annual and more dates for 2009 will be added as soon as we get them so you can plan your trip ahead. Where possible I've added wee links to the events listed.
As they are annual the links are good for each year, just in case i'm late witht the updates

28th Edinburgh Harp Festival
3rd - 8th April 2009
The Harp Festival takes place at Merchiston Castle School around these dates.Part of the Ceilidh Culture,the Harp festival offer 30 classes, 18 workshops and 10 concerts. Please see website for full details.
25th march - 18th April Edinburgh International Science Festival
Huge programme of innovative, involving, entertaining and extraordinary events based on science and technology, and suitable for all age groups from 3 year olds right up to fully-fledged adults.
12 days of inspiring, challenging and entertaining events including lectures and hands-on activities for all ages.

30th April BELTANE
Join the audience of over 15,000 people who gather on Calton Hill to share and marvel at this spectacular procession. Inspired by the ancient Gaelic Festival of Beltane, with its heady mix of drums, fire, theatre and pagan ritual, this exuberant event celebrates the arrival of summer
May & June Mary King's Ghost Fest 8 - 17th May
Edinburgh's dark tales and strange paranormal activity will once again be highlighted during this annual ghostly festival

Children's Festival 26th may - 1st june
You'll find shows to make you laugh and plays that get you thinking as the world's best children's theatre comes to Edinburgh. From puppets to dance there's something for everyone - whatever your age. From singing bananas to Spanish dance there are stories and characters who are sure to make you smile in this wonderful event

Taste of Edinburgh 29th - 31st May
Following the success of Taste Festivals in London, Dublin and Birmingham, this year Taste is coming to Edinburgh to celebrate Scotland's pride in its fine food and drink. This upmarket event takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Meadows and is not to be missed for all food connoisseurs. Prestigious restaurants and celebrated chefs will be serving sample-sized signature dishes giving thousands of foodies the opportunity to enjoy the best that Scottish restaurants and food and drink producers have to offer

17th june Linlithgow Marches Ever since 1541 the townsfolk of Linlithgow have carried out a ceremonial marking of the burgh boundaries. MARCHES 2009 start the first tuesday after the second thursday in June 2007, which this year translates to 17th June.

Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival

The plans for Edinburgh's Christmas 2009 are already underway and they're gathering programmes for events, fun fairs, shows, pantomimes, exhibitions, storytelling, craft workshops, sporting events, Santa’s grottoes and so much more! Keep and eye on the web site to find out how the programme develops or even better, register there to be amongst the first to hear of all the excitements planned..
