The Sherwood

A warm welcome is assured at our Edinburgh Guest House.
It offers superior Budget Bed & Breakfast accomodation (AA 4 stars STB 4 Stars).
It is part of a Georgian Terrace built in 1835 and is situated 1 mile from Princes Street on the main A701 road into town from the South and is great value central accommodation
Although it contains many of the original features of a Georgian Town House, our Edinburgh Guest House has been upgraded to a very high standard. All rooms in our Edinburgh Guest House have en-suite or private toilet and showers (which are the most powerful available in any hotel or Guest House in Britain) or private facilities, central heating, coloured T.V. and tea/herbal tea and coffee making facilities. Our larger rooms have full fridges and microwave, as does our smallest room, and all our other rooms have small coolers. In short we have everything a good Edinburgh Bed & Breakfast establishment should offer.
Our centrally located budget accommodation is conveniently situated for visiting Edinburgh's many wonderful tourist attractions like Edinburgh Castle
the Palace of HolyroodHouse
the Scott Monument
& St. Giles Cathedral to name just a few. We are also just 5 minutes walk from the nearest golf course.
We have photos of most of our Edinburgh Guest House as well as a little page to check out our availability
There are many fine restaurants and bars within a couple of minutes walk and we will be happy to advise you according to your tastes.
We have a computer for guests use which has broadband internet access and there is also a wireless internet connection for those who prefer to bring their own.

Since we started to run the Sherwood in August 1994 we have strived to present the best possible breakfast. Although our prices have not changed much since 1998 we have noticed that tastes have changed in recent years and that the traditional Scottish Breakfast no longer has the appeal it once had. With this in mind we have decided to change our breakfast format as from 1st September 2006. We will no longer offer as standard a cooked breakfast, although this will be available as an optional extra.Insead we will offer our usual choice of cereals, fruits, tea/coffee toast etc and in addition we will provide croissants, press for big picture cheese, fresh fruits ( bananas apples etc depending on season) and a variety of yogurts.
Todate ( aug 07 ) we have had a very positive response from the vast majority of our guests although to be fair up to now we have had 3 sets of guests morning the passing of the 'traditional fry up'. I guess its true that you cant please all the people all the time. but we do try, honest.
After a good nights sleep in our quiet ( all rooms secondary glazed) comfortable bedrooms, you can begin the day with one of our hearty breakfasts and be ready to set off for a full day in the City of Edinburgh.
Twenty yards from the front door of our Edinburgh Guest House is a bus stop where you can catch a bus to almost any part of the city.
At our Edinburgh Central Guest House we have parking for 3 cars which is worked on a first come first served basis and as such there is no such thing as a reserved space. There are however plenty of metered and free parking bays in the surrounding area, most of which are less than 50 meters from the front door.
Our Edinburgh Guest House is five minutes walk from the Royal Commonwealth Swimming Pool and a 30 minute walk will take you to the top of Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh's fine volcanic hill. This will give panoramic views of the whole of Edinburgh, including our Edinburgh Guest House, and over into the Kingdom of Fife.
There are a number of local restaurants which cater for all tastes and a plentiful supply of take-away specialists who will supply everything from a basic fish and chips, Italian delights (Pizza & Pasta),up to an Indian or Chinese banquet.

Why Edinburgh?

In addition to having some of the nicest Guest Houses / Bed & Breakfast establishments, Edinburgh must surely be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
It's main thouroughfare (Prince's Street) while having some beautiful monuments, gardens, art galleries, and stores, is dominated by a large Castle which sits atop a most imposing volcanic rock.
There are Castles, palaces, museums, galleries, cathedrals , churches and municipal buildings enough to satify the most ardent archiological scholar.
For the culture vultures there are many fine theatres and music halls especially during the various festivals that take place throughout the year. The Jazz and Folk Music festivals are only two of the yearly musical events and we must not forget the International Festival (Aug-Sept) when every hall in the town is transformed into a theatre for the duration.
Edinburgh can also boast of some of the finest bars and restuarants to be found anywhere. All tastes are catered for whether it is Pub Grub and a pint, haute cuisine and fine wines or something in between.
